Rehabilitation and mobility
In addition to dog training, we dedicate a significant amount of time and resources to the rehabilitation process of our beneficiaries, both physical and psychological.
Effective mobility techniques help blind individuals stay safe by allowing them to be aware of their surroundings, avoid obstacles, and respond appropriately to changes in their environment (e.g., traffic, stairs, or uneven ground). This skill ensures they can move through spaces confidently and reduce the risk of accidents.
Often, we work with individuals who lost their sight later in life, an overwhelming experience marked by a deep emotional shock that can lead to severe depression. In such moments, emotional support becomes essential, serving as a fundamental pillar in the recovery process.
With limited financial resources and a long waiting list, we are forced to prioritize individuals who can move independently. To better support these individuals, we plan to open a rehabilitation and training centre, which will allow us to provide the necessary support in a safe and friendly environment. This initiative will help us reduce the high costs generated by traveling to beneficiaries, especially in cases where they live long distances away, sometimes as far as 400 km. Through this centre, we aim to bring rehabilitation closer to those who need it most.
